Been taking it for many years now. I notice some aching in my bones and muscles now and then and wonder what symptoms are for this rhabdomyalisis. My mother also took Simvastatin and she would ache so much they finally took her off of the meds. She can't take any of the statins. I don't have the aches like she did, but I've been taking it a long time and it could be that some of the things going on with me are signs of this and I don't even realize it. I know I've taken Simvastatin since at least 2005, might be a bit before. It's now 2013, so it's been quite awhile now.

Re: Zocor - Class Action - Class Action Lawsuit

My husband was taking 40MG but had continued his daily niacin of 500MG. Even after stopping the medication, he became so debilitated he could walk only a few steps. He was so anorexic that his body was devouring itself. He had chills and sweats; he stank even after showering, and he was in agony. His feet swelled so badly that even his sandals could not be worn. I saw the description of rhabdomyalisis but it terrified me so I tried everything I could think of to get him help. I didn't want to believe he was in muscular skeletal failure.

The doctors were confused because his thyroid and red blood counts were so low. They chased low thyroid, leukemia and pernicious anemia. I ripped out the new teflon coated stainmaster carpeting and installed tile. I looked into everything for mold or anything toxic or noxious. Frantically we tried to get him into see other specialists.

Finally, I talked him into stopping the medication when every symptom that I tracked on the internet pointed back to Merck and simvastatin. Convincing him was difficult; he thought he had arthritis, and he couldn't believe that simvastatin could be the problem. With our doctor's blessing, I found herbal anti-inflammatory capsules: Zyflamend, Cats Claw, etc. and the redness and swellings left his wrists and fingers. The agony in the rest of his body remained, and nothing I cooked could coax him to eat more than 3 or 4 bites. He was slipping away from me, confused and without the strength to talk or think. He was too weak to focus his eyes, and a recent MRI indicated a stroke at some point. After 50 years of marriage, I can imagine no other time for that stroke..

A year ago on July 4th, I took him to a Univeristy medical Center. It was that or Mayo Clinic in Phoenix. I was afraid he would not live to get there. We both knew he was dying. He was so depressed. The family was gathering. The diagnostic clinic there thought it to be polymalgia rheumatica. I had run across that as a possible simvastatin side effect, but for higher doses.of the medicine. I had long since taken away the niacin. Protein in his kidneys was mentioned. Prednisone was administered, and my husband began to eat again. Our primary doctor called to apologize on missing the diagnosis. None of the doctors would buy into simvastatin as a possible culprit.

This consumed a year and a half of our lives. I've spent a fortune on super nutrition to rebuild the protein he lost, and slowly he is still working his way back almost to where he was when he decided to try the drug to lower his cholesterol. Now we find that this polymyalgia can take up to 5 years or more to cure or however one terms it. Nobody really knows what it is yet, not even Mayo. It wasn't exactly what we had in mind for our golden years.

A pox on the house of Merck.

Re: Zocor - Class Action - Class Action Lawsuit

my husband was only taking 20mg of zocor and now has rhabdomyolysis he is already loosing all his muscles and no attorney will take his case just because it wasnt the 80mg

Re: Zocor - Class Action - Class Action Lawsuit

My father had ALL the systems and died May 15th due to kidney/liver failure.

Re: Zocor - Class Action - Class Action Lawsuit

I stopped 2 years ago when the pain and cramps in my legs were unbearable.

Re: Zocor - Class Action - Class Action Lawsuit

I stoped taking Zocor 20 mil 5 years ago.
